Bone Broth and Navy Bean Soup

Add this hearty soup to your routine to warm you up and fuel your training regimen. Great as a slow cooker recipe or on the stove.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium ham bone remove excess fat
  • 1 16 oz package dried navy beans rinsed
  • 1 quart chicken broth or vegetable
  • 3 large carrots peeled and chopped
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes low sodium
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 8 small yellow potatoes diced
  • 3 clove garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 leaf bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper ground
  • 3 cups water

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a large slow cooker, stir until mixed. Add additional water as needed until all ingredients are covered.

  2. Simmer on high for 4-6 hours or on low for 7-9 hours.

  3. Once the beans are tender, then turn off the slow cooker or turn to the keep warm setting. Discard the bay leaf and ham bone. Serve warm. Bon Appetit! 

Recipe Notes

  • You can cook this dish in your large slow cooker or in a stock pot. To cook in a stock pot simply bring the ingredients to a boil over high heat then lower the heat, cover and simmer for two hours. 
    • Add additional water as needed after two hours, then simmer for an additional two hours. (total of 4 hours cook time).
  • Don't have a ham bone on hand? Feel free to use store bought bone broth or bone broth prepared powder for this recipe!
